Ford F-150 SVT Raptor: now 411 hp

The F-150 Raptor is no ordinary pickup. With professional-quality off-road racing suspension and other racing-class components by Ford`s SVT (Special Vehicle Team) division, the Raptor is the only production pickup intended for high-speed off-road driving. And now, with the newest Ford "Boss"-series 6.2 liter engine, its capable to accelerate to 100 km/h in just about 7 seconds. Virtually everywhere. Meanwhile the Raptor remains well-equipped, comfortable and very capable vehicle with quite reasonable price: the newest version starts from about $42,000 in the USA, only three thousand more compared to "ordinary" 310-hp, 5.4 liter Raptor.

The differences between the Raptor and ordinary F-150s include:

- modified suspension with straightened and elongated arms for extra long suspension travel (11 inches front and 12 inches rear)

- big-piston Fox Racing shocks (the rear ones with remote reservoirs)

- 35-inch BF Goodrich tires with three-ply reinforced sidewalls

- stiffened engine and transmission mounts

- skid plates protecting the engine and the transmission

- many more smaller mechanical changes

...And all this is to provide ability to swallow off-road impacts without damaging the vehicle, even driving at high speed!

The only complain by world journalists about the Raptor had been it`s relatively weak 310-hp, 5.4 liter Ford`s V8 engine, which provided acceleration to 100 km/h mph in about 9 seconds. Now the newest "Boss" engine should address the problem: with 411 hp and 588 N*m of torque, the acceleration time should drop to about 7 seconds at not only asphalt but at territories where most of the vehicles can't go at high speed at all.

The new Raptors are already available in the USA. The 6.2 version costs about $42,000 (three thousand more that standard 6.4 liter Raptor). And comes, quite remarkably, with standard 3 years / 50 000+ km warranty provided at every Ford dealer. Just another advantage of factory-built performance vehicles.
