Infiniti has been building its reputation with sport-style vehicles with better-than-average engines. Now time has come for something practical as well: meet JX, a seven-seat, front-wheel-drive crossover!
Full specifications are yet to be announced, but it’s known that the base engine will be a 3-liter V6 mated with a CVT (continuously variable transmission). It`s probably making about 290 hp. Not quite sporty for a probably 5-meter, 2-ton SUV, but driving enthusiast will have an opportunity to adjust driving settings (probably transmission responses, transmission behavior etc) with a knob mounted at center tunnel.
In the USA front-wheel drive will be standard, while all-wheel drive will be an option.
A gas-electric hybrid is also highly probable (it’s known that Infiniti has already registered JX25h trademark).
The interior is going to be as elegant as other Infiniti`s, with many unusual details like asymmetric seats covers an slashed of wood cutting across the door panels. The equipment is also expected to at top level, including 14-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic roof, blind-spot monitoring, cross-path detection etc.
Roominess is another thing which Infiniti promises to be JX`s feature. The third row should comfortably accommodate two adult passengers, while the second row seats will tilt and slide to provide optimal space for all passengers.
Such roominess has left not a lot of freedom to exterior designers, who tried to make the JX look slimmer than other 7-passenger vehicles. One thing is certain: no other vehicle on market has ever had such a pillar swoop, which is expected to become trademark feature of all infiniti models.
More details are expected later this year, while the actual cars will go on sale probably next summer for about $40 000 - 45 000 in the USA. No info on European sales yet, though.
