The fastest version of the Audi A3 is not a head-turner by its looks, but the car can help one feel the acceleration of a Lamborghini Diablo for just about 1/5th of its price. Meanwhile, it's a 5-door, 4-5-seat hatchback perfectly suited for daily city driving.
The source of the Lambo-dynamics of the RS3 is the 2.5-liter inline-five turbo engine which provides 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque in incredibly wide range of 1600 to 5300 rpm. Mated with the DSG 7-speed transmission (which provides virtually instant gear switching) and 4-wheel-drive, it allows to push the RS3 from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 4.6 seconds, which actually only 0.1 seconds shy of the time of the legendary $300,000 Lamborghini Diablo. The top speed of the RS3 is electronically limited to 155 or 174 mph depending on options.
Besides the extreme powertrain, the RS3 has a number of exterior and interior features like front bumper with huge air intakes, wider front fenders of carbon fiber, silver mirror caps, lowered suspension, 19-inch wheels, flat-bottom steering wheel and a number of smaller details.
The rocket Audi is about to go on sale very soon for about €50 000 in Europe. Unfortunately, no plans were announced for sales in the US yet.
